InternetBar.org (IBO) was founded in 2005 as a Bar Association to help create an international, online justice system; “Justice For All”. The established practices and standards related to the legal profession can not survive for long in this the “information age”. Barriers to international commerce are falling away and access to online information and services, including legal services, is growing. Creating fair and recognized systems and standards for helping parties to conduct their affairs and resolve disputes across borders is a key component to the success of the global marketplace. The IBO’s role will be facilitator of these new international standards, tools and systems that are implemented via the internet. Our goal is to create a trusted online community and infrastructure to facilitate “Online Justice” throughout the world.

We are in the process of establishing an international community of lawyers practicing in cyberspace to help shape the global dialog about the rule of law in a changing world. These changes include addressing transnational justice, national sovereignty, and corporate power in a global economy within the norms and cultures of the world. Where necessary, we will seek to reform the law in order to provide more meaningful access to justice and the legal system.

IBO has participated in or attended major law and mediation programs throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia. IBO has primarily engaged in speaking and networking at these events. Attorney Jeffery Aresty has been the main proponent for IBO at a host of events each of the past three years. Looking to 2008, IBO plans to not only attend, but pay for booth space at select events in order to promote its courses, credential programs, memberships and to build brand awareness. The IBO has also begun to produce these symposia. Our network of entrepreneurs and lawyers, mediators and politicians all bring different perspectives to the table. It is through the power of our network that these multi-disciplinary conferences turn into palpable “brain-trusts.”

In 2008 IBO plans to expand its existing relationships with the ABA Law Practice Management Section, the ABA Insurance Section, the ABA World Justice Project and the ABA International Law Section and other work groups internationally!

IBO’s Contests and Cyberweek activities have already provided a niche into this market. Dan Lindner, The IBO’s Director of Students and Legal Consultant, has established relationships with law review editors at over 100 law schools. Additionally, we are reaching out to several law schools with ADR or ODR programs. We are also building social networks to attract young lawyers and law students. Our law student division has never been stronger!

The IBO is also in the process of creating an online database of legal and business forms. This database will greatly reduce the costs of the legal forms. Our database will also help increase access to the justice system for entrepreneurs in the developing world. The IBO database is being developed in collaboration with the Micro-Commerce Justice Initiative, leading U.S law firms, law professors, practicing lawyers and business people. Our database will be available at no additional cost to our members.
