MCJP Nigeria
Internet Bar is developing models for micro-commerce development in Nigeria with the assistance of Ayo Kusamotu, a practicing lawyer who has worked for many years to bring social, political and economic justice to the Nigerian people. Mr. Kusamotu is a 1997 Law graduate of the University of Lagos. He was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1998 and completed the mandatory national service in 1999. Mr. Kosamotu was a pioneer student at the Fate Foundation, Lagos(a school for aspiring entrepreneurs).
He was the Project Lead of Creative Commons Nigeria and is also the Chair of the Africa Committee of internetbar.org. Ayo is a partner in Kusamotu & Kusamotu(Lawyers)www.kusamotu.com and practices with his brother, Olatunde who is currently practicing as an Attorney in the United Kingdom. Mr. Kusamotu was a member of the Presidential Task Force that drafted the Intellectual Property, Anti Dumping and Competition Commission bill in 2001. Ayo was also amongst the advisers to the Economic Community of West African States(ECOWAS) on strategies to adopt in negotiating the Competition aspect of the Economic Partnership Agreements with the European Union in October 2005.
Ayo is focused on developing an international law practice with emphasis on cyberspace. A Practice that breaks down national boundaries yet keeps within the confines of rule of law in cyberspace. In this regard he is currently working on creating a network of Law Firms across the African Continent. Ayo hopes to position a class of African cyber attorneys.
At this stage in the project, Mr. Kosamotu is working with Internet Bar to identify specific locales in which to launch MCJP initiatives. Among the challenges being addressed at this stage are local and national policy issues and logistics matters. Access to technology--specifically computers and the Internet--is rising in Nigeria, but in most rural and village areas the necessary technology infrastructure is not yet present. To address this and other development matters we are currently writing grant proposals and working with technology providers on business modeling.
